Quebec Ministry Exam Dates 2026-2027
The official schedule of the 2026-2027 ministerial exams, as published by the Ministère de l'Éducation: the January 2027 session, the May and June 2027 session, then the August 2027 session. English-sector and French-sector schools write on different dates, so both are listed.

Key dates
- Secondary 5 English Language Arts: January 13 and 14, 2027, or May 25 and 26, 2027, depending on the session your child is registered for.
- Secondary 4, both sectors: mathematics (TS and SN) on June 11, history on June 14, science on June 16 and mathematics (CST) on June 18, 2027.
- Grade 6, English sector: English Language Arts between May 18 and June 4 (dates chosen by the school), mathematics from June 8 to 10, 2027.
- Secondary 5 French writing, French sector: December 3, 2026, or May 6, 2027. Ask the school which session your child is registered for.
January 2027 session
The exams run from January 6 to 21, 2027. In French-sector schools, the Secondary 5 French writing exam comes earlier, on December 3, 2026 (preparatory file handed out on November 26).

When is the next ministry exam session?
The January 2027 session. In French-sector schools it starts before the holidays: the Secondary 5 French writing exam takes place on December 3, 2026, and its preparatory file is handed out on November 26. The other secondary exams run from January 6 to 21, 2027. In English-sector schools, the first dates are January 6 (French as a second language documents handed out) and January 11 (first sitting).
When are the May and June 2027 exams?
In English-sector schools, Secondary 5 English Language Arts is on May 25 and 26, French as a second language runs from May 10 to June 8, and the Secondary 4 exams run from June 11 to 18. In elementary school, Grade 6 English Language Arts is held between May 18 and June 4 (each school picks its dates) and Grade 6 mathematics from June 8 to 10, 2027.
How much are ministry exams worth in Quebec?
According to the ministry, Secondary 4 and 5 exams count for 50% of the final mark for the competency or competencies evaluated. Elementary and Secondary 2 exams count for 20%.
My child failed an exam. What now?
The August 2027 session runs from July 20 to August 4, for secondary students only. The school or school board confirms whether your child can sit it, or whether another path applies. Either way, a few weeks of focused preparation with a tutor, combined with practice exams, makes a real difference.
