Practice test — English private school entrance test (Grade 7)
Most English private schools in Montreal (St. George's, LCC, Bialik, ECS and others) share one entrance test for Grade 7, administered online by Brisson Legris in September and October of Grade 6. It has three parts: an ability test made of logic-type questions, English reading comprehension and a short questionnaire about learning attitudes. No math, no French. This free practice test reproduces the first two parts: 25 multiple-choice questions, about one minute each, with an explained answer key.
Common Admission Test of the English private schools (fall 2026, Grade 7 entry in 2027)
Fall 2026 sessions run by Brisson Legris: September 13, 20 and 27, October 4, 18 and 25 (registration closes about ten days before each session). Each school confirms the sessions it accepts.
Varies by school: the test result, the Grade 4, 5 and 6 report cards, a recommendation from the current school and, in most cases, a family meeting.
What the test covers
- Non-verbal reasoning: figure grids, series, classification, paper folding, turned and flipped shapes
- Verbal and quantitative reasoning: analogies, letter and number series, secret codes, short logic problems
- Reading comprehension: an informational or narrative text with questions on details, inferences and vocabulary
- Learning attitudes questionnaire (not scored): the real test ends with one, so the practice does too

In each row the count stays the same and the shape changes; in each column the shape stays the same. The missing figure must be three grey squares: Figure B.

The rule is: double it and take away 1. 8 gives 15, 7 gives 13, so 12 gives 23.

Which schools use the Common Admission Test?
St. George's School of Montreal, Lower Canada College, Bialik High School and ECS share it for Grade 7 admission; it is administered by Brisson Legris, a Montreal testing firm. Other English private schools (Selwyn House, The Study, Sacred Heart, Kuper Academy and others) run their own process. Always check the admission page of each school you are considering.
What is on the test?
Three parts: an ability test made of logic-type questions (figure grids and series, analogies, number patterns), English reading comprehension, and a questionnaire about attitudes toward learning. The schools say it clearly: no math test, no French test. It is multiple choice, completed online from home, and takes about an hour and a half in the morning.
Can you prepare for it?
The schools say no studying is required, and they are right about content: there is nothing to memorize. What helps is familiarity. A child who has already seen a figure grid, a paper-folding question or a letter series, and who has practised reading a text against the clock, spends the real session thinking instead of decoding instructions. Brisson Legris also provides sample questions once you register; do them.
When and how do we register?
Apply to the school (or schools) first, then register for a test session through the Brisson Legris form. In fall 2026 the sessions are on September 13, 20 and 27 and October 4, 18 and 25, and registration closes about ten days before each date. The fee is $80.48 (taxes included), paid directly to Brisson Legris, whatever the number of schools receiving the result.
Do you offer a full simulation of this test?
Yes, and it is online like the real test: a complete timed simulation in the same format (non-verbal reasoning, verbal and quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, plus the attitudes questionnaire for familiarity), corrected question by question with a detailed report by section ($99). Most families add a one-hour online debrief with a tutor who reviews every mistake with your child and builds a work plan ($199 for both). Packages with coaching hours and a second simulation before the test: $449 with five hours, $699 with ten. In-person supervision is available on request.
