The hourly rate
Your exact rate depends on your profile, mainly your education level and your tutoring or teaching experience. It’s set when you’re hired: no reduced-rate trial period, no hidden commission.

For reference, most student jobs in Quebec pay around minimum wage. Tutoring pays better, and a worked hour is a real hour: no closing the register, no cleanup after the shift.
Travel compensation
When a session happens at the student’s home, travel compensation is added on top of your hourly rate. In your application you state your means of transportation and the maximum distance you’ll accept: matching respects those limits.
Online sessions obviously involve no travel. Many tutors combine both formats to fill their schedule.
What does that look like in practice?
An honest example rather than a promise: at 6 hours of tutoring a week, a $21 hourly rate works out to roughly $500 a month, before travel compensation. Some tutors do less, others go up to 15 hours and more during exam season, when family demand peaks.
